Got Sight? Warren Tactical Series Glock Sight Review [Look here…]

A Glock handgun is one of the most recognizable firearms both within and out of the shooting community. Known for its robust design, Glocks are an excellent handgun for both beginners and advanced shooters. However, if you are looking to get more out of your handgun, there are some minor upgrades that can make a big difference. Perhaps the biggest complaint among shooters is the standard plastic ‘Dot in U’ sights. These sights might work just fine for some people, but it is hard to argue that there is not a better option. The great thing about these firearms is the availability of aftermarket parts which include a wide range of sight options. In fact with so many options, trying to pick out the right sight for your shooting style can be a daunting task. If you are looking for a quality sight that fits a variety of shooting scenarios, Warren Tactical Carry Sights are a great option to consider.

Before You Buy

The standard plastics sights that come on a Glock handgun leave a lot to be desired. While Warren Tactical makes a great sight, it is not the best fit for every shooter. If you are primarily shooting in low light or dark conditions, you might be better suited with night sights. Additionally, if you are looking to build a tricked out race gun for competition shooting, you should probably be looking at a red dot. Assuming that these scenarios do not match your requirements, I would recommend taking a good look at the Warren Tactical sights.

Designed by top IDPA competitors, this Warren sight offers the ability for quick target acquisition and fast follow up shots, while maintaining enough precision for accurate shot placement. They are ideal for competition shooting but are also a great option for your everyday carry gun or range gun. The sights feature a fiber optic front post and a plain rear notch. The front post is a little narrower than the standard sight, so if you have trouble with your eyes you might look elsewhere. These will fit any Glock with standard sights, so your G17, G19, G34 and others are good to go, but they will not fit the G43 or G42. Keep in mind that they do not come with the Glock sight tool so make sure to pick one up if you do not already have one.

Pros:

  • Quality Construction
  • Ease of Installation
  • Great Visibility in High to Medium Light

Cons:

  • Not Ideal for Low Light
  • Cheaper Options Available
  • Smaller front post

Features and Benefits

There is certainly a wide range of options for sights on a Glock pistol. All of them will get the job done, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality. When I was researching replacement sights, I was definitely tempted by some of the lower cost options. However, after using the Warren Tactical sights on my gun for over a year now both in competition shooting and at the range, I would not hesitate to purchase them again.

Front Post

Front PostThese sights feature an all metal front sight post. This is especially important for competition shooters who can wear down the standard plastic Glock sight. While drawing quickly, the front sight tends to get drug across the holster. An all metal sight is a great upgrade if you are going to be doing a lot of shooting from a holster. Additionally, it comes with about 1 inch of both red and green fiber optic. I was a little hesitant about installing the fiber optic the first time, but it is actually very easy.

You use a heat source such as a lighter to melt a small bead on one end of the rod. Then you cut the rod about 1/16th longer than necessary and place the fiber through the sight. All that’s left is to heat up the open end to lock it in place. It is a very simple process and it allows you to control the size of the bead on the fiber optic. Having extra fiber optic is great for swapping out colors, or for replacing it on the off chance it ever breaks. I went with red which shows up great both outside and inside. The last notable feature on the front post is the serrated edge, which does a good job of eliminating any glare, ensuring you are always able to get a quick sight picture.

Rear Notch

One thing that I really appreciate about these sights is the lack of any markings on the rear sight. It is flat black with a wide notch. After switching to the Warren Tactical sights from the standard Glock sights, it made a noticeable difference in my ability to focus on the front sight post. Removing all the color from the back sight really draws the eye to the highly visible fiber optic on the front. The wide notch facilitates this even more by allowing light through. All of this factors into fast target acquisition and quick follow up shots.

Rear NotchAnother nice feature on the rear notch is the set screw, ensuring that your sight will not fall or drift out of position while shooting. It also makes installation easier. With most aftermarket sights, you might need to lightly sand the bottom dovetail to be able to get it to fit. With the set screw, you do not need to worry about taking off too much material and ruining a brand new sight. I know some people might prefer to go with rear night sights, however, when installing those, you have to be careful not to break the tritium vials. With the Warren Tactical rear notch, installation is quick and painless. Overall, the flat black wide notch makes an excellent match for the fiber optic front post.

Social Proof

Before I purchased these sights for my Glock 34, I spent a significant amount of time researching different options. The Warren Tactical sights not only met all my needs but were also reviewed very positively online.

Alternatives

From sub-compact to full size, Glock offers a variety of guns in different calibers. Regardless of your shooting style, Glock probably has a handgun that will be a good fit. Warren Tactical sights are a great option, but if they do not match your shooting style here are a few other considerations.

Ameriglo Cap ProGlo

AMERIGLO Cap Series (Combative Action Pistol) Sight Set for Glock - Fits Gen 1-4 9mm/.40/.380, Gen 5 10mm/.45

This Ameriglo would be my go-to pick for an everyday carry gun. It features a simple sight picture similar to the Warren Tactical sight. The front post has tritium which is outlined with a green luminescent square, making it ideal for low light conditions. The rear notch does not have tritium making it simple to install, but it does have a luminescent lime green mark at the bottom of the ‘U’ to aid in low light shooting. It lacks the speed of other sights but is an excellent choice for close encounters.

 Truglo Fiber Opticx

TRUGLO Brite-Site Tritium Red, Rear Green Glock 20-37 Handgun Sights (TG131G2)

If you are looking for a more standard sight picture, you might consider the Truglo Fiber Optics. Featuring a red fiber optic post that contrasts well with the two green fiber optic dots on the rear sight, they come in at a cheaper price point without giving up quality. These sights would work well for a range gun.

The Snake Eyes is an interesting option if you would prefer something other than the typical sight picture on your handgun. The unique design allows for fast target acquisition and both front and rear sights have tritium. Additionally, the larger rear sight is a nice feature if you want to be able to cycle the gun with one hand. If you want to upgrade your Glock sights and are looking for something entirely different, these might be a good choice.

Warren Tactical Series Glock Review Final Thoughts

The standard plastics sights on a Glock leave a lot to be desired in terms of durability and functionality. Warren Tactical sights are metal, making for a much stronger and reliable sight. The functionality is greatly improved with a high visibility fiber optic post and a plain wide rear notch. From shooting IDPA and 3 Gun competitions to target shooting at the range, and countless hours of dry fire practice, I have been nothing less than impressed with these sights. If you are looking for a quality all-purpose upgrade for your Glock, I would recommend you should check out these Warren Tactical sights.
